The Lagoon Nebula is one of my favorite objects in the night sky, and it holds a special place in my heart because it was my first color image! I simply cannot describe the excitement I felt when (after more tries than I care to remember) I finally was able to capture useful images and combine them to create a color image. Dust lanes! Red hues!

It's many years since I first imaged the Lagoon, and now I'm back—this time with a wide-angle camera so I can capture both the Lagoon and the Trifid nebulae (about 2 degrees apart, or 4 times the width of the full moon). I mean, reds are nice but with the Trifid in the same image, we get blues too and even some yellows!
